Which isn’t a bad thing at all for the smart ones among us, this means the opportunity remains high and the costs low. Also everyone is going to be using it to promote their own thing across their own websites they’ve found with this software, so the likelihood of knocking each other off, once again remains very low.

Something you have to take note of is the new adwords interface. I’m sure Armand’s updated the tutorials but just in case, I’ll try and explain it a bit further. When he made the tutorials for Placement locator, it was just before adwords completely changed their User Interface.

Me personally I preferred the old adwords interface, it was alot simpler and cleaner but they’ve tried to make it all flash and “modern” and it’s just like no…but thats another story! Lol.

The first thing you notice about placement Locator is how simple the interface is, and another thing you’ll notice quite quickly is keywords. So yes this still needs you to do your keyword research if you thought you could get around it. Obviously this has a big impact on whether your campaign will be successful or not.

However, and this is why it’s so effective, if the keywords you’ve targeted aren’t converting you’d most likely know by the time you’ve spent $10 instead of $100

Before you put your keywords into Placement Locator it’s worth just checking the options. The default settings are fine to use but you might want to mess around with them in the future.

In The “search Engine Control” section these are the ones you want to pay attention to.

“max pages” means the amount of pages you want the program to go through for the keyword

“max Threads” You don’t really need to worry to much about this but if you have a very fast internet connection, you can increase it and it just decreases the search time

Once you’ve done all this and you’ve collected your keywords, you then copy them and load them from the clipboard into Placement locator, choose which search engine you’d like to focus on then  click start

You now leave it to do it’s thing, depending on how many keywords your aiming for, it can take a while, the longest it’s taken me before was about a half hour. In that half hour it found me over 200 sites I could advertise on. If I was to do this manually, it could take more than a week for me to come up with that many sites. I suspect it would be longer than that even, because as you can imagine I wouldn’t want to sit in front of a computer screen for hours trawling through Google to find websites with Adsense. That’s just not smart..and boring to be honest.

Placement Locator Step 1

Once it’s collected the results, you just export them, and it will put them in a text document, ready for you to just copy and paste straight into Google! Simple. It might be worth checking through some of them first, to see if the content is good and suited to your ads and product. It’s also worth checking to see if the ads are up the top of the page. They probably wouldn’t be very effective if they are at the bottom, since alot of people don’t bother to scroll down.

Now the software has done it’s job this is where it can get a bit confusing, trying to work through the adwords interface. I’ve been using it for a year now, and I still find it all a bit to much at times.

You go into adwords, click create a new campaign. You then select the drop down box where it says campaign type and select content network now fill out all the details there. For maximum effectiveness I suggest you do some research fors using google trend to find out the most popular locations and areas instead of using googles bundle packages.

As you scroll down make sure your not advertising on “all Available sites”, click “let me choose”, and uncheck “Google search and search partners”.  Make sure you check the “Content Network” box and then select the second radio button, which should be “Relevant pages only on the placements and audiences that I manage” –This is your placements and YOU manage Them, I say that strongly because Google will mess it up otherwise and you’d go straight through your budget before you know it.

You don’t really want it to advertise on all available “devices” either, because they might be able to see and click your ads on their phones and Iphones, but this doesn’t mean they can order the product or really want to. Depending on the product of course this could be more money frittered away. So just check the “laptops and desktop computers only” option.

This is the important bit now.

In The “Bidding and Budget” area be sure to go over to advanced, because this is the secret on how to get it all so cheap, Click the “focus On Impressions” box.

Now set what your prepared to pay a day and Google will do the rest, I normally find as little as £20 a day sufficient, I don’t’ usually hit that much per day but I get maximum exposure. This is how effective it is.

I don’t normally worry about ad extensions or scheduling, same with the demographic and ad rotation options, that’s up to you if you want to bother with those and it’s pretty self-explanatory too.

On the next page is where you create your ads, then further down it says placements. This is the bit that doesn’t really matter. Just put in any website there, it doesn’t matter, it will just allow you to get to the next step where we get to put are targeted placements that we found with placement locator.

Once you’ve done that, click next, then you’ll be presented with another page, and now just go along to networks at the top of the page and you can now copy and paste your sites you got with placement locator into the field. Some sites won’t be accepted, which is fine, theres nothing you can do about that just delete them, this doesn’t usually happen very often though

..I’m sure you’ve looked at the website by now and got a brief understanding of how placement locator works and what it is.

If not Stay here, I’ll also show you how to work it best.

For those of you that don’t know, or ­adwords and PPC and all that is a new field to you, read carefully because this can get very confusing very quickly.

Google Adsense is Google’s program for website owners that allows these website owners to be paid for putting ads on their website. Every Time a visitor to a website that has ad sense on it clicks one of these ads the website owner gets a few cents or dollars.

Why do they get paid and where do the ads come from?..I suspect is your next question

Well The ads are a part of Google’s content network which is basically an incredibly huge library of ads That Adwords Users Have created and are paying for. Adwords users are people like me and other marketers who are basically paying Google to show our ads, we pay per click or in the case of placement advertising, per thousand impressions. We get to choose which one at the time we create these campaigns.

Google then does it’s thing and finds the most relevant ads in this massive library related to the content on that particular page, then displays them.

Now, say I’m paying 50p per click of one of my placement ads, and it’s shown on someone’s webpage, and there visitor clicks it, part of my 50p goes to the website owner and the rest goes to Google and I’m 50p poorer. Thats Adsense, Adwords and ppc all summed up as briefly as possible.

Since using this software I’ve been completely astounded with the results, it works all the time and at a fraction of the cost. You may have looked at placement advertising with Google before but not  really explored it or most likely of gotten terrible results. I did and got terrible results.. but after a short time, I knew why but there just didn’t seem to be a way to “fix it” I thought Google had just put their placement advertising program together poorly.

Turns out they haven’t, but you can’t help but wonder why they make it appear that way.

The problem is, when you go to create a placement advertising campaign they initially only give you the option to advertise on a whole domain not on a single webpage of the website. Doing this makes it incredibly untargeted and “scattered”.

For example, say your promoting a chicken coop guide online and you want to advertise somewhere on the top ten websites that are returned in a search in Google for “chicken coop”, you only want to advertise on that one single page which may be something like diyguides.com/chicken-coop.

Now, when your choosing the placement websites Google won’t let you put a sub domain such as that in. For Some reason it just won’t allow it at this stage of the process. So in that instance you’ll have no choice but to advertise across the whole of diyguides.com. Now common sense should tell you that no one is going to click your chicken coop ad if it comes up in one of their articles for How to build a kit car say.

This is why I had terrible results and lost a lot of money because of this scattered effect of advertising, For some of the products I was advertising with Google’s Placement Program I’m pretty sure my ads never showed up where I wanted them to.

This is where placement locator comes in and showed me how to get around this problem.

What Google doesn’t tell you is that after you’ve made your campaign you can actually add the website sub domains that you wanted to advertise on in the first place by editing the placements after you’ve made your campaign.

What they also don’t tell you is that when you manage to get your ad on the page, it doesn’t matter what it is but you knock off all the other ads, so you become the only ad on this webpage.

How cool is that?

Your basically taking the traffic and sales straight off your competitors website if they have ad sense on it.

This is one of Armand’s more recent pieces of software and as usual it’s an incredibly resourceful and useful tool. In fact I fully believe it’s possible to generate a second income quite quickly from it. Especially if you dedicate yourself and time and some money to it.

This software I’m talking about your probably already aware of in one form or another, but this was the first piece like it. It was released last year in January 2009. It’s called Placement Locator.

As you can probably guess by the name, it finds placements on the organic search result websites where you could potentially place your ads promoting your own or affiliate products.  It is an incredibly sneaky and powerful bit of software that can quite literally drive you way more traffic for over half the price than if you were to do a normal ad words campaign.

You’re looking at clicks for less than 10 cents, or an infinite number of clicks where you only pay per mill of views.

What do I mean by mill views? This means that you only pay say 15 cents per thousand times the ad is shown. Using this method you don’t pay for the clicks. So you can get tens or hundreds of clicks for less than 30 cents worth of ads say.

Of course the flip side of it is if you don’t get the clicks and sales your paying especially if you got your ad on a high traffic page. Anyway that’s down to testing at the end of the day. But either way you’re going to save an incredible amount of money.

This piece of software is perfect for those who are on an incredibly tight budget and looking to get into ppc and ad words selling. I’ve often thought I wish I was introduced to this first instead of PPC. It’s soo much cheaper. £100 pounds or $100 will get you a lot further than with PPC and search engines, It will also last longer which is crucial since you can see and understand what’s happening.

I used to put £100 a month straight into adwords and in one instance it was gone in a day, with no sales and tons of clickthus. This is incredibly painful to witness trust me.

Hopefully you can now see how useful and versatile this bit of software is. If you already own quite a few successful websites or are wondering how to progress your business further, this is the perfect application for that “next step” and squeezing every last penny out of your page.

I hope this also answers your question as to why your popup may be converting not very well either. Bear in mind those stats I gave you aren’t the most up to date on popup blocking software either. Basically everyone who uses the web now never sees any popup until they pick up a virus or manually disable their popup blockers, which I doubt they’d do any time soon.

The current generations of operating systems such as vista and the soon to be released windows 7 and Mac operating systems come pre-installed with  internet protection software so that means you really have to dramatically change your tactics with regards to popups. But they also ensure these popovers get through fine, since java script can’t be used maliciously and is part of the website.

So I strongly suggest you get on it now and take advantage of this technology.

First you have to understand that popups and popovers are completely different pieces of technology. Popups use HTML coding which means that when they open, they are effectively a completely different webpage altogether. That’s how popup blockers stop them and that’s why your popups currently don’t seem to have any effect, remember the stats on the previous post?…

Popovers Use JavaScript which is completely different and is usually part of the current page. Normally you don’t see or hear about JavaScript, Which is fare enough, not many people know what it is or understand it. I don’t fully understand it myself, but I know it’s usually a part of a website somewhere, the most visual of these being flash banners and applications. Since it’s part of the website and not a new window of HTML code, popup blockers don’t read or understand this.

That’s why it’s so effective and practically guarantees that every visitor to your website sees your “Popup”. Now your “popup” is shown inside your site and isn’t external.

This is a brief excerpt from the user manual-

“Fact #1: Popovers as Pop ups dramatically increase response to ‘opt ins’ and other Internet offers. Your business may be profiting from them right now.

Fact #2: Many major Internet service providers, like AOL, Earthlink, and Netscape, representing millions of your  prospects and customers, are making it as easy as flipping a light switch to permanently turn off all ‘pop ups’ – including your ads! But they cannot do anything with your PopOves!

Hopefully that should be crystal clear by now, and I bet you’re well interested. Now you will be amazed at how simple it is to use. Once again The best part is it’s essentially all done for you. Like focus generator you can install it to your website with a click of a button at the end of the process.

As you can see from the first screen that appears when you open the program, you can also add any of the templates you’ve created previously to a new website or another one. This is really handy when your “Testing The Waters” because you can create a few variations of the popover you want and very quickly and easily switch them around.

Due to the JavaScript nature of these popovers, they are quite malleable things. The appearance and effects are all changeable. With the other options like the drop in box it can stimulate a very high response rate. Since people naturally read downwards, when this box flies down from the top of the screen, it guarantees it’ll be looked at.. All you need to do is put the right offer in there!

This is probably the most technical bit of it all, it’s still simple but it requires a bit of understanding and testing, because this section dictates where it’s going to appear on your page and how big it’s going to be. What’s great is from hear on out there’s video help for each of the steps and for which ever type of popover you choose to use.

It uses pixels to position itself on your page. The standard ones that are there are pretty spot on but of course everyone’s site differs. What I used to do was put in what I thought was correct then fast track the rest of the steps so I could preview it. Then you just go back and work from there till you get the desired positioning and size.

Now you’ve chosen what you want, and how you want your popover to appear, now is where you make or break it. The content area is what your going to put in your popover, be it an optin box, a free offer, or a link to an affiliate site. Whatever it is make it good, otherwise your “Popup” popover will be ineffective. Once again theres video help on hand if your unsure of the interface, but it’s a pretty straightforward WYSIWYG editor, just like word.

You can bold, italic and underline it, you can also mess around with fonts sizes and colours to get it to look right. This is also the field where you put any HTML code. So that means you can throw an opt-in box in there to grab peoples email addresses, and best of all, you know it wont get blocked and people will see your offer!

This is like the final appearance settings and colours, now you’ve done the size, positioning and content you just need to pick all the background colours, text colours and font. You can also change what it says in the title bar. This basically allows you to blend it with your page and compliment your site, or you can make it really stand out, depends what your after or promoting.

The next bit is simple as well and is something you probably wouldn’t think about unless this software suggested it, especially since it doesn’t function like a normal popup. You can set up a delay period, make the popover draggable, resizeable. It can either stay on the page the whole time or the user can close it. You can also have it put a cookie in the users browser that means it wont popup if they’ve closed it previously. This helps in the general annoyance department

It’s generally about making it friendly for the end user, and it allows you to take out the annoyance factor of popups. Some people will realise and genuinely appreciate this, thus developing more trust and confidence in them since you won’t be outright selling to them.

This is where you get to preview and make the final changes to your popover, it’s worth naming it something related to what you intend to promote with it since you can very quickly loose track of what you’ve made or need to make.

Once you hit next, your done, you just need to add the page where you want the popover to show up on and then it’s done!

You now have your Popover and never have to worry whether your customers see your “popup” or not again. It’s guaranteed. This can push your sales through the roof when used correctly

The next piece of software I’m going to be covering is something you’ve most likely already seen on websites and sales letters without even noticing it, it’s that effective.

The piece of software I’m about to introduce to you is really amazing and probably the best of it’s type out there in terms of usability, effectiveness and end results.

It’s called popover generator, this is another way to beat the popup blockers that everyone is using. Think of it as a more advanced version of Focus generator, and when used correctly it’s possibly the most powerful of all sales tools out there.

That said, it can also break your site if not used correctly or used in a very “spammy” manner.

Here are a few stats to take into account. This will also help if you are currently wondering why your popups are ineffective or showing no results:

Bare in mind this is only a few of the companies offering popup blockers….

• Earthlink’s popup blocker software has 4,989,000 Subscribers
• AOL’s Popup Blocker Software that came with computers when new has around 35,203,000 Subscribers

Okay, so that’s 40,000,000 odd people who currently can’t see your popups and opt-in pages.

On to the rest of the review though, in this part I’m going to show you the software in use.

The layout is once again very basic and simple to use, it’s step by step and point and click easy. Anyone could use this very effectively. It also cuts out the cost of the cover designer for your products (it wouldn’t surprise me if they were using this behind the scenes!)

Something you’ll notice straight away is it does a little bit more than just ebook covers..

This is where it all starts, you’ve got your template selection to the left (standard) and a little drop down box to choose what it is you want to make. Right now it looks a bit ugly but this is just the start, you only start to see the real effect in the final part when your choosing how you want it to look and you get to mess with angles, lighting etc.

Heres the selection then:

As you can see this covers a bit more than your standard ebook covers. This vast range of options makes it an invaluable tool when promoting all sorts of information products. You can see what I mean about the images now.

Even if your course or product is entirely online or download only, These give a great “tangible” impression of what they may actually look like if they were physical products. This really does help people justify their purchase, especially if they want to discuss it with others or family first. You can just see them saying “have a look at what I’m going to get…”.

On to the next step of your eCover Generation Process !

Now you’ve selected the type of cover you want, now you just need to put pictures in or text to show us what it  actually is. The only drawback is you get quite a basic text and image editor. You still get to mess around with sizes, fonts and shadows. It’s the same with the pictures. It’s very basic stuff.

I’ve never really found a need for much more advanced features though. But if you use it as much as I did, you might just get that little bug “if only I could do this..or make this look a little different”. This is extreme fussiness though, I don’t suspect you’ll ever have that.

It just feels good to know that when you finish, no matter what it is, it’s going to look good.

This is basically the same as step 2, except now you’re doing the spine of the box or book. This is dependent on what you chose initially, if you picked a Cd cover or Special report you normally skip this part and go straight on to the best bit…making the final image!

This is how you make the covers look good and professional. What you’ll find now, once you get to this stage, is that the window to the left is 3D view of your creation. Now you have complete manipulation to do whatever, you can change the shadow, the lighting angle, the angle of the box, shadow intensity. You can zoom in and out to whatever distance you think looks good. One of the best little bits I found was the background color. Say your sales page is a blue of some description. If you grab the HTML code numbers for it you can put them in here. This means that the book will stand out and blend seamlessly with your web page.

Once you’re happy with how everything looks, say you got the angle right the shadow and lighting is perfect all you have to do now is click “smooth edges” This then creates a final anti-aliased, high-quality picture.

For those of you familiar with 3d design programs such as Light wave and 3ds max this smooth edges button is essentially the same as the render image button.

Once that’s done you save image! There’s your new e Cover. Very Simple and effective.
